Irish Hallmarks
Each piece of Irish Jewellery we sell bears the Hallmark of the Dublin Assay Office in Dublin Castle.
Since 1637, Irish Law states that all jewellery of precious metals must be stamped with the official hallmark. This is a traditional letter symbol for the year it was created. A fineness mark guaranteeing the purity of the metal and the official insignia of the Irish Assay Office in Dublin Castle.
The Dublin Assay Office independently verifies the quality of metal sold so the Hallmark is your guarantee of high quality.
The Assay Office in Dublin Castle has been operational since 1637 and is tasked to supervise the assaying of all gold, silver and platinum produced and sold throughout Ireland. An assay is a test of the purity of an alloy.
The assaying process is a test of gold, silver and platinum alloys to ensure they meet the declared standards. Example Silver to have 925 part of fine silver in each 1000. 18kt gold should be 75% pure i.e. 750 parts of pure gold to each 1000 parts.
